14.4 MW Gas Fired CHP
Areas of work: Asset Management, Brewing & Distilleries
Description
In November 1997, we began the operation and management of a 14.2 MW Gas-Fired Combined Heat and Power (CHP) station located at the Guinness Brewery, Dublin.
The plant features three 4.8 MW SOLAR Taurus 60 gas turbines, three 27 t/h waste heat boilers, and a standby 27 t/h independent fired boiler. Designed for 24/7 operation, it meets 100% of the site’s electricity and steam demands, with the capability to export surplus electricity to the national grid.
The system operates on natural gas or diesel fuel and is equipped with advanced control and automation systems, including black start capability and SCADA monitoring linked to SMS-based alarms for real-time issue management. In 2003, a major overhaul replaced gas turbines with upgraded models. Built for reliability, the CHP plant ensures uninterrupted energy supply, even during grid outages or fuel interruptions, while maintaining optimal efficiency and seamless integration with site operations.
