70 MW Energy Centre

Areas of work: Data Centres, Power Generation

Description

The team was tasked with designing a 70 MW independent islanded Energy Centre for a Data Centre, with future capacity scalability to 140 MW.

The primer mover were dual-fuel gas engines providing continuous 24/7 operation, incorporating N+2 redundancy and robust backup systems to address risks like fuel shortages or fire hazards. The design accommodated multiple engine vendors, ensuring flexibility while maintaining performance.

ETAP analysis determined the optimal operating voltage at 33 kV. Physical separation and detailed operational planning enhanced reliability and supported the client’s maintenance philosophy, delivering a high-reliability energy solution pending a future grid connection.
