50 MW Energy Centre

Areas of work: Data Centres, Power Generation

Description

Detailed design of a 50 MW energy centre for a Data Centre. This was one of the first data centres where the client transitioned from traditional standby diesel generators to utilising gas turbine generators for backup systems.

Each turbine generates 5.8 MW and has dual fuel capability. Secondary fuel is supplied by 6 fuel tanks with a total capacity of 600 m3. The configuration is 9 No Centrax KB7 units. The resilience requirement of the site informed the design.

The site is supplied temporarily by distribution gas which requires compression before supply to the turbines. When the site is connected to transmission gas, the compressor will be removed and the remaining turbines installed.
